Pro are two impressive watches with some pretty fundamental differences. But when youre looking to buy these, you might wonder, should you upgrade for the watch 5 pro or save up to 170 for a nearly identical galaxy watch? 5.. Well on the surface, it looks like theres a lot of differences, but when you get into it, the differences are slightly different than you might expect. So in this video i want to dive into all the differences between these and specifically focus on the functionality. The appearance and my experience after using these watches for the past couple weeks now i want to start off by saying the watch. 5 pro is new to samsungs lineup samsung now has three watch lineups. Essentially that are based on how active you are. So, if youre really not working out much, if you just maybe occasionally go for a walk or a bike ride, and you mostly want something that looks nice, you know for the work day, the watch for classic is going to be your watch. If you work out, you know some amount. The watch 5 is kind of what samsungs designing for you its supposed to be kind of a general, not the sporty version anymore, but the regular one now and then the watch 5 pro is for those who want to do. You know more off road. Like mountain biking and trail running and things like that, things that are a little bit more intense, but that doesnt mean thats necessarily what you have to get for those things.
So, starting off with the appearance, youll see that these two look very different. I have the 40 millimeter galaxy watch 5 and the only size of the watch 5 pro the 45 millimeter and the size is obviously going to be your first difference. The watch 5 regular has two variants: the 40 millimeter and the 44 millimeter. Like i said, i got the smaller one just because i wanted to have a smaller one here, and i think that the smaller one does already look really nice, but the 44 millimeter. Something to note is that, even though it is a one millimeter smaller body than the watch 5 pro, the display is exactly the same size, so youre not really going to compromise that the only difference with appearance, of course from that aspect, is going to be technically. You have a larger bezel on the watch 5 pro, but the watch 5 pro kind of does a better job of hiding that, by having like a physical thing around there kind of a little bit of a raised bezel that hides that black ring that you would Otherwise see on the watch 5 regular so from appearance standpoint that could be a slight advantage, but i do kind of prefer the look of the galaxy watch. 5. More of a subtle sleek look. I love the aluminum rails on either side and it keeps it like. Just a nice simple, regular watch, as i mentioned, it is kind of unfortunate that you only have a 45 millimeter size for the watch 5 pro.
So anyone with a smaller wrist is a little bit out of luck there. For me personally, i have fairly average wrist. I would say – and this feels very comfortable for me – it really feels like the right size and with this infinitely adjustable band. I just think that a lot of people would be happy with this unless you have very small wrists, in which case this would obviously look very large now, as far as colors go, the watch 5 comes in graphite and silver in both sizes. You get gold in the 40 millimeter or sapphire in the 44 millimeter and the watch 5 pro again, not really focusing too much on aesthetics either. Black or gray is all you get, and it definitely is a chunkier. Looking watch packing a larger battery in there now. Neither one of these has a rotating bezel: they both have a digital bezel, and so this is a little bit of an appearance thing, but kind of sliding into functionality. The functionality of that. I think it does work better on the galaxy watch 5 pro. This is kind of a subtle thing that i noticed, and that is you have something to reference your finger on, because you have that that kind of raised bezel around there, you kind of slide your finger around there and it works really well. So the digital bezel feels more comfortable in the watch 5 pro, whereas on the galaxy watch 5 its all a flat surface, so you have to kind of figure out where the circle is and its easy to miss or kind of lose your circle as youre going So kind of a subtle thing, but when youre using it, it is a clear advantage for the watch 5 pro, but the raised bezel obviously does more than just that.
It is meant to protect this, and this is something that some people might overlook and say its already a pretty tough watch. I dont really need the raised bezel. The watch 5s. Fine! Well, you can see right here. Ive actually already damaged my galaxy watch 5.. So because you have nothing protecting the display on the top uh, you can actually damage that there is a like a quarter inch of black like nothing between the edge and the display, so the chances of actually damaging the display are slightly less youre, more likely just To scrape the edge like i did, which maybe could damage the waterproofing, that would be the big issue there, but otherwise not its really, mostly going to be cosmetic. Now, on the galaxy watch 5 pro we do have a titanium body, so it should be a little bit tougher on the outside and that raised bezel definitely protects any kind of chipping that might happen on that glass, whereas on the watch five, as you can see, Right here, youre just going directly onto that glass and a little bit of soft aluminum around there that again can scratch very easily. They both have a sapphire crystal display, but the pro is a more durable version, rated for up to 29 gigapascals, while the regular is just 24 realistically, both pretty durable, but scratching can happen. Like i said, the display sizes, as i mentioned earlier, are identical for the 44 millimeter watch 5 and the 45 millimeter watch 5 pro so youre getting the same resolution.
The same pixel count everythings basically the same there. But what is not the same is the battery life. The battery is substantially larger. On the watch 5 pro and from my experience just comparing the smaller watch 5 to the watch 5 pro the battery life is not quite double, but its very close to double. I was easily getting an entire extra day and a half versus the watch five and so, for example, the galaxy watch. Five really doesnt have a great battery life. In my opinion, if you go for a four mile run with gps on and if you play music so downloaded spotify songs, for example, on bluetooth earbuds, then you can easily blow through 25 or 30 of your battery within about 30 to 35 minutes. Now, if you do this every day and then you go through your normal day, youre definitely going to be charging this every single night. On the contrary, the watch 5 pro you can easily go. If youre you know using it heavily. You can go solid two days with this, but more likely three and a half to even possibly four days, if youre, even using this a little bit lighter. Interestingly, they both have the same processor, the same health, sensors, the same user interface, the same storage and the same ram. So i was kind of surprised by that. I thought that samsung would maybe give you like more storage or something extra with the pro model being called pro.
Maybe an extra health sensor, but they didnt give you anything extra, which is a big positive for the regular watch five, but they do have some software differences are also going to market here, but ill. Tell you how to get those software features on the galaxy watch. Five, its really not that hard, so these feel, like honestly, inbound updates like in a couple months. They might just you know, give this feature to the watch. Five theres, nothing really preventing it from getting this, but there is a track back feature and a route loading feature, so you can take a gpx file so like a hiking, trailer, a trail biking route that you want to do – and you can put this on the Watch and itll give you turn by turn directions and then, at the end, if youre lost or you know, you made a wrong turn, youre adventuring, you can say track back and itll. Take you back to where you started thats a really nice feature on the watch. 5 pro that you dont have on the watch 5, but there are tons of apps that already do this. So if you get the commute app, for example, you can download droughts on here and you can do basically the same thing on the galaxy watch 5 or for that matter. Most other android watches out there so when it really comes down to it, youre looking at a pretty substantial price difference here, the watch 5 pro starting at 450, while the watch 5 starts at 280 for the smaller version and 310 for the larger version, which means Youre saving between 170 at the most 170 cheaper for the watch five, but at the very least 140 dollars cheaper for the watch five, and when you really think about what youre getting with the watch.
Five, its a pretty good deal, youre getting the same sensors. The same processor, the same speed on here, the same storage, the same ram like really, basically, everything the same except for durability and battery life and gpx file loading on there. So, although its tempting to say if youre doing extreme stuff get the watch 5 pro and otherwise get the watch – 5 thats, not necessarily true, because you can definitely do trail, biking and more off road style stuff with the watch 5. But the battery life might be your limitation there, so id say, get the galaxy watch 5. If you want a smaller watch, obviously because there is no smaller watch 5 pro, but also if you want a more subtle design and, most importantly, if you want to save money for essentially the same watch experience but get the galaxy watch 5 pro. If you need that longer battery life, if you need that extra durability, so really thats going to be if your wrist is close to a lot of hard objects, for example, if youre rock climbing or if you ever maybe fall off your bike, those are situations where The watch 5 pro would really pull through and its tempting to say. If you want the gpx thing, then maybe get the watch 5 pro, but realistically the apps out there are already so good that the watch 5 can do that just as well. So, alternatively, as i said, if neither one of these are your cup of tea, the galaxy watch 4 classic is another great option that has the same chip, the same really all the same specs, but it comes with a physical rotating bezel, probably on discount.
Now that its last years model, but basically still the same so check out that i actually made a full comparison between the watch 5 pro and the watch 4 classic. But for me personally, because i already have both ill probably be wearing the watch. 5. Pro a little bit more specifically for that longer battery life, but also the added durability, its kind of a nice touch as well.BCEeB9Q38EE
