Packaging Experience
The Sequent hybrid SmartWatch from Switzerland comes in a white box which contains a second box inside, along with a personalized thank you note signed by Adrian. The minimalistic packaging is implemented nicely, giving a sense of thoughtful detail from the company.
First Impressions
Upon opening the box, I found the watch already set with the time and fully charged. This allowed for immediate use without the need for any initial setup. The inclusion of an instruction manual, a USB charger, an oilcloth, and a USB cable completes the package.
Design and Features
The Sequent SmartWatch features an unconventional strap made of silicone, with four color options available. The playful design may not be to everyone’s taste, but it adds a unique touch to the overall look of the watch.
Performance and Functionality
One of the standout features of the Sequent SmartWatch is its long battery life, eliminating the need for frequent charging. The watch utilizes kinetic self-charging technology, which harnesses the energy generated by the user’s movement to power the device. This innovative approach sets the Sequent SmartWatch apart from traditional smartwatches that require regular recharging.
Who Should Consider the Sequent SmartWatch
If you are looking for a smartwatch that offers extended battery life and eliminates the hassle of frequent charging, the Sequent SmartWatch may be the perfect choice for you. Its unique design, coupled with innovative technology, makes it a compelling option for those who prioritize convenience and functionality in their wearable devices.
Design and Build
The Sequent Smartwatch comes with a casing made of stainless steel 360L, paired with sapphire glass for durability. It is waterproof up to 50 meters, making it suitable for various activities. However, it lacks built-in GPS, requiring users to carry their cell phones for location tracking purposes. The watch has a diameter of 40.9mm and a height of 12.9mm, making it a compact and lightweight option at just 30g.
Comfort and Wearability
The Sequent Smartwatch is designed for comfort, with a width of 22mm that fits snugly on the wrist. Despite the plastic cover on the back, the transparency effect adds a stylish touch to the overall design. The lightweight construction makes it easy to wear throughout the day without feeling bulky or cumbersome.
Personal Experience
Having used smartwatches in the past, including the Withings Steel HR, the Sequent Smartwatch appealed to me for its step-counting functionality and long battery life. As someone who doesn’t wear a watch daily, the Apple Watch was never an option for me. The Withings watch served me well for four years, but the lack of sapphire glass led me to explore newer options in the market.
The Sequent Smartwatch: A Game Changer
Imagine a world where you no longer have to worry about charging your smartwatch. Sounds like a dream, right? Well, that dream is now a reality with the Sequent Smartwatch. This innovative timepiece redefines convenience and sustainability in the world of wearable technology.
Unlimited Power Source
The standout feature of the Sequent Smartwatch is its self-charging capability. Through the dial design on the watch face, it harnesses the power of sunlight to keep itself running. This means that as long as you have access to natural light, you may never have to plug in your smartwatch again. It’s a game-changer for those who lead an on-the-go lifestyle and don’t want to be tied down by constant charging needs.
Impressive Battery Life
According to the manufacturer, the Sequent Smartwatch can last an impressive 18 months in standby mode. If you’re using it for basic activity tracking, such as the pedometer function, it can extend up to 12 months without needing a charge. Even with additional features like heart rate measurements, set at two-hour intervals, the watch can still sustain a battery life of 30 days. These numbers are not just promises but actual results that users can attest to.
Real-World Experience
Many users, myself included, have found the Sequent Smartwatch to be a reliable companion that truly lives up to its claims. I haven’t needed to charge my smartwatch since December, and it’s now the end of March. The battery indicator still shows 70%, which gives me the confidence that I won’t have to worry about charging it for the rest of the year. With summer approaching and more sunlight available, the battery level is likely to reach 100% again soon.
Personalized Settings
One of the great features of the Sequent Smartwatch is the ability to customize settings based on your preferences. You can choose the frequency of heart rate measurements, ranging from every 5 minutes to 2 hours or even less often. This flexibility allows you to optimize the battery life according to your needs, ensuring that the watch functions efficiently while conserving power.
Specifications and Operation
I think the consumed is great. Yes, I’m confident that these specifications will be adhered to. So now let’s talk briefly about how to operate the watch. So, first of all, here on the left side, you can see this display from 0 to 100 now it’s around 90. That is How many steps you have already taken today, depending on what you have set in the app. Here on the right. You can see a display from 0 to over 200.. This means that the watch shows what your pulse is. So you carry out a heart rate measurement, as I showed before.
Battery Life and Connectivity
If you press it twice, then you can see how much battery is left. If you click on the crown once then, a blue LED lights up here briefly, which means that the smartwatch is trying to connect to the smartphone so that it doesn’t constantly communicate with the smartphone. But when you open the app on the smartphone, you have to press it once and then it synchronizes. If you press it once the LED here lights up red. This means that a pulse measurement is carried out and if you click on it twice, then you would carry out an SpO2 measurement, i.e. an oxygen saturation in blood measurement up here.
Functionality and Limitations
If you press, then you stop this recording, then again briefly at the back right now, the ear is trying to measure my pulse now. It has already stopped but, as I said, that’s all the functionality you can do in addition to sleep tracking, but you can’t display any messages like that.
App Functionality
So much about using the watch now lets talk briefly about the app. I use an Android smartphone and the app has worked quite well so far for activity tracking. You can see how many steps you have taken, your average heart rate, and count steps over different time periods. The app also allows you to track your sports activities, such as running, and provides a platform for community engagement.
Heart Rate Monitoring
The Sequent Smartwatch offers heart rate monitoring, allowing users to track their heart rate throughout the day. While this feature may be useful for some individuals, others may not find it as essential. The app provides insights into heart rate data, but its usefulness may vary depending on individual health needs.
Sleep Tracking
Another feature of the Sequent Smartwatch is sleep tracking, which provides information on the quality of sleep. Users can track their sleep patterns and gain insights into their overall sleep quality. This feature can be beneficial for those looking to improve their sleep habits and overall well-being.
Battery Life and App Troubleshooting
The app also displays the battery life of the watch, allowing users to monitor how much charge is remaining. However, some users may encounter issues with the app, as mentioned by some reviewers. While the app is minimalistic and well-designed overall, there may be room for improvement in terms of troubleshooting and functionality.
Bluetooth Connection Issue
Once I managed to download the watch, but now when I try to download my watch its really the watch and not the app, then I go here and then it says. Yes, I have to do it somehow Reset the Bluetooth connection, but if I then go to my settings, then I have no option to do anything with Bluetooth.
Watch Performance
I have already tried turning Bluetooth on and off with no result and thank God I havent had any problems with the watch. It runs as expected, and I dont actually have to update the watch at all, but I still made a support request to find out if they can help me and Ill write in the comments, whether they got in touch and how long it took for them to Get in touch have so much again about the app.
Company Overview
Now lets go back to the SmartWatch, so Ill now make a small cut and then well briefly talk about the company and about the privacy B. Data protection because SmartWatch is is always a thing like that. Now lets talk briefly about the company Sequent, which is based in Switzerland, as I already mentioned, and if you go to their website, youll see that theyre advertising the supercharger, not the solar charger, and that Solar Charger is only in second place.
Mechanisms Used for Charging
The version looks a little different than mine. If you then look at other watches from the company, it looks diverse, but the difference between all the watches is not just their appearance, but there are two mechanisms that are used to make the watches to charge.
The Revolutionary Charging Mechanisms
There is the solar charger which uses the sun, and there is also the supercharger which uses kinetic energy, so it is charged through the movement, and we can look at these here.
The History of Sequent’s Charging Technology
For example, look at the back again and S looks completely different than mine. I found an article here from 172621 when it comes to a kickstart campaign from Sequent. They want to produce more Ren, but it is also mentioned that Sequentter g206 was founded and even back then there was the supercharger mechanism with the kinetic energy. And yes, it looks like they are on it. The market went out at that time and therefore became big, and the mechanism has remained true to this day. What is interesting is that the company sequen does not produce this mechanism, this supercharger itself, but the company kinitron. They still make generators turbines and so on, and they probably have them a lot of experience with such systems. So here it says 35 years of experience in developing and manufacturing customer specific motion based energy harvesting systems.
Sequent and Kinitron Collaboration
If you look further, then it’s no secret that the work with Sequent comes together on every page, and this is mostly for Sequentially. The heart of the watch comes from the ground Z, at least with the supercharger two are then put together, and that doesn’t have to be a bad thing.
The Future of Sequent’s Charging Technology
So now we’ve talked about the supercharger, which is important for the company and with the solar charger I haven’t found out where the mechanism was made. But it won’t surprise me if this also comes from the company.
Data Protection
Kinetron. Now lets talk about data protection and, of course, like all other manufacturers, there is a lot of data activity data. A lot of physiological data such as heart rate and technical data, is also interesting. Wifi, network, technical logs. You have activated battery measurements so all in all quite a lot. So then personal data thats clear. We partners like API, so thats already optional and if you contact support then they can use your name and your email and so on see. But it is explicitly stated that you cannot view the personal health data. Here. It is also mentioned that scientific research studies can be carried out with anonymized data, and then it is also mentioned that the General Data Protection Regulation must be adhered to. So, of course, every company has a bit of leeway, But it doesnt explicitly say whether everything is encrypted or not. It is also mentioned that the data is processed and hosted in Northern Europe and that anonymized data is also shared with others. What I didnt like is that if you want your data, that is, I would like to have a copy of his data that there may be some fees and um well, Ive, seen that too, at wi thingss its made a little more differentiated. But I want your personal data to be stored for up to 20 years.
Additional Features
Now back to the watch and what I do I wanted to quickly show that the dial is illuminated at night.
The Design
The Sequent smartwatch boasts a sleek and stylish design, making it suitable for both casual and formal wear. The display is clear and easy to read, even in various lighting conditions. The overall look of the watch is minimalistic yet sophisticated, perfect for those who prefer a more understated accessory.
Functionality
While the Sequent watch is not touted as a SmartWatch, it functions as a hybrid fitness tracker. It tracks steps and other fitness metrics accurately, providing users with valuable insights into their daily activity levels. One downside, however, is the lack of a date display and alarm clock function. Despite these missing features, the watch still serves its purpose well for those who prioritize simplicity and functionality.
Privacy Concerns
In terms of privacy, Sequent falls short of impressing users. The data transmission and storage processes could be more transparent and detailed. As someone who values digital minimalism, I am cautious about sharing personal data, especially without knowing how it is being encrypted and used. While disabling certain features like heart rate measurement may help mitigate privacy risks, it is challenging to find a SmartWatch or fitness tracker that does not communicate with external servers.
Sequent Smartwatch’s Battery Life
The Sequent Smartwatch boasts a unique feature that sets it apart from its competitors – the fact that it never needs to be charged. This is a game-changer for those who lead busy lives and often forget to plug in their devices.
Comparison with Superchargers
When comparing the Sequent Smartwatch to superchargers, the decision was not an easy one. The superchargers may offer the convenience of never having to charge again, but the bulkier size was a major downside for some users. The Sequent Smartwatch’s sleek 40mm diameter and 12.9mm thickness won over many customers, despite the need for occasional charging.
Alternative Options
The Scandu Horizon is another option in the smartwatch market, but its similar price point and need for monthly charging made it less attractive to some consumers. The Sequent Smartwatch’s unique selling point of never needing to be charged was a significant factor in many users’ decision-making process.
The Sequent Smartwatch offers a range of useful features for activity tracking, heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, and more. While the app may have some limitations and issues for some users, overall, the smartwatch provides valuable insights into health and wellness. Whether you’re a fitness enthusiast or simply looking to improve your overall well-being, the Sequent Smartwatch may be a beneficial addition to your daily routine.
Overall, the Sequent smartwatch is well-made and functional, meeting the basic needs of users seeking a reliable fitness tracker. The design is attractive and the display is easy to read, making it a practical choice for everyday use. Despite some privacy concerns and missing features, the watch remains a solid option for those looking for a simple and effective way to track their fitness goals.
