A beautiful lie so to speak. Lets talk so Ive been using the pixel 7 Pro, as my daily phone over the last couple of weeks check the review for that in the video description. If you havent seen that already, but alongside the phone Ive also been using the watch in conjunction and in part, it has really enhanced the experience with some really well thought out impressive features, but in equal measure its got some poopy parts that really let it down. Poopy Parts, the new technical term for a product con, so firstly, what do I love? Quite simply, I love the fact that Google have finally entered the Smartwatch game. I dont get why its taking this long, considering weve had so many smart Google products over recent years, but not one of the most popular smart accessories to run alongside smartphones. So quite Y is a bit beyond me, especially considering nearly every other brand has produced a smart watch and some of them even use Googles, wear OS platform which was created by Google years ago now, but that aside, what else floats my bow? Well, the pixel watch haptics, like with this 7 series of phones, is just incredible, really fine tune, so things like watch notifications and Crown navigation just feel excellent, like its such an underrated area, I feel within the tech industry, because in any new product this can drastically Affect how polished how premium a product feels something else that feels really polished is the display theres, a real finesse to the watch, face curves, making all swiping gestures just really fluid and effortless, and the 1.
2 inch OLED display has a 320 PPI. So its certainly sharp enough for its size and bright, also at 1, 000 nits, which is not as bright as the Apple watch Ultra for sure, but it is pretty much as bright as nearly every premium Flagship smartphone that is available on the market. So you can use it indoor, but also outdoor with absolute ease. I do think the decision to only make one size was a bit of a mistake, because I have fairly small wrists for a guy and even I think it looks a bit small. I mean its ideal for sport and things like swimming with its 50 meters water resistance, but from a sheer Aesthetics point of view, and also from a functionality point of view as well. I do think it would benefit from being bigger typing, for example, is just really finicky and has actually got me picking up like or picking up and then dropping its actually going to be picking up my phone more often than I possibly would necessarily need to, and Even though in most use cases, the UI does a really good job of kind of using black backgrounds and kind of giving the illusion of that really immersive Sleek Pebble disc appearance. In reality, there is quite a large bezel all the way around again shrinking that actual usable space, and this is a bit of a shame, because the actual smarts that are available here are in abundance.
If a little patchy at times and Ill explain. You have a blood oxygen sensor, ECG and Googles. Wear RS offers access to all of your app notifications, which you can interact with with a swipe up and then, if you swipe down, you have controls to airplane mode. Google pay also available with a double tap of the crown and things like controls for your Google home devices, which is really nice to have at a glance, although, if you are viewing cameras, for example, you will need to go to your phone for that. The top right button offers you your recent apps and voice assistant with a hold, and a single press of the crown gives you access to the complete features of the watch from amongst many more maps messages and your Fitbit bits and pieces. Because, yes, of course, Google acquired Fitbit. So now you can use all of your Fitbit data within your pixel watch, um smartphone. Now, while on the surface of things that may seem a little clunky to sort of fuse, Google software with Fitbit software, and especially when you consider that you can technically download two, if not three apps, in order to set your phone up, the Fitbit app the pixel Watch app and the Google Fit app, which now almost seems pretty redundant. If you are a previous Fitbit user, you may think Best of Both Worlds right here within the Fitbit app, you can take advantage of sleep and exercise tracking Stress Management, and you can log food and water intake to keep you on track with your health goals.
Swiping left and right on the watch face also gives you access at a glance to exercise and fitness data heart rate, as well as weather, and your upcoming agenda. If you have any set, and even though the pixel watch is running with a now two year old Samsung exynos 9110 chip inside which was seen on the Galaxy watch 3, which is slightly less than ideal, it does feel pretty fluid um Snappy, not quite sure why. It took me so long to say the word: Snappy brain fog, Snappy. Now you may notice there is a slight difference between finger and Crown scrolling, and that is because the crown doesnt support inertial scrolling. I think Ive pronounced that word correctly, but in laymans terms, when you scroll using your finger, the animations Etc continue to scroll, even after your finger has left the display. But if youre using the crown, it stops dead again when you compare it to other smart watches. Some of them have that fluid continuation when youre rotating the crown even after youve stopped rotating. It will continue for a little bit again that can feel slightly more smooth and some may feel that a little jarring here, but on the flip side it feels quite accurate. So you dont have to ever backtrack if its scrolled on too far past the app Etc. That youre looking for. I think the new pixel watch is a steady device. I dont think its necessarily hugely groundbreaking, but you do have a pretty complete, well rounded and useful watch and there isnt much that it doesnt allow you to do in conjunction with your smartphone but whats the point in having all of those features all of those smarts.
If the battery dies within 24 hours, like literally, I found myself sometimes charging the Watch twice a day full charge when I get up in the morning and then a quick Dash just before I go to bed to make sure it gets me through the night. I almost feel, like Ive said, with all of the Apple watches, up until the Apple watch, Ultra that it almost defeats the object of having those sleep tracking smarts, for example. If you have to charge the watch so much, I just end up not using them and the most painful thing about all this is had. They have made the watch bigger or at least given you an option of a bigger watch. They could have included a bigger battery so for those people that just wanted to have it for exercise Sports swimming, Etc. They could just use it on the Fly for the fitness aspects and not then needed it for all day use. But for those who wanted the all day, all encompassing performance, they could have had that as well. Now please note: I have pretty much every battery sucking thing going on on the watch always on display which works really well, and things like the tap and tilt awake, Etc. So you could potentially eke out a little bit more battery if you wanted to, but when I get a new product like this as Im sure you do, you want to use all of the new good features dont you.
So you put them all on. Why shouldnt you be able to use all of those wonderful smart features just because youre worried about battery charging itself is fairly quick. Although again, I would like to see some improvements on the actual charger, because, again, its slightly less than ideal, the magnetic snap is pretty flimsy and it often feels and does slip off, and you have to kind of spend a couple of seconds making sure its. Definitely on and its not going to slide off and it kind of has a bit of a loose feeling so things again that they could definitely improve in a gen 2.. So, Im really glad that Google have joined the party here and I see some really great things and for the right person. This might be ideal for you, but considering the 3′ pound price tag and some of the drawbacks that weve already touched on. I think there are possibly better options out there. I do think Google are currently offering the pixel watch free if you purchase a pixel 7 Series phone, which kind of really changes the game a little bit here, and I think that then becomes a bit of a no brainer. If you are looking for a new phone as well, because as I mentioned in my pixel 7 Pro review thats a fantastic phone and theres seven standard phone is brilliant as well in that price bracket. So if you are interested in these sort of double up, then definitely check out the deals that might be on offer for you, because I think that could be uh.
The one could be. The deal of the century might be might be a little bit of an exaggeration, its a good one, though its a good one.
